GE, Firefighter's Family Settle In Chopper Crash MDL

Law360, New York (October 4, 2011, 8:32 PM EDT) -- Two relatives of a firefighter killed in a 2008 helicopter crash moved Tuesday to dismiss their case against General Electric Co. and several other companies after reaching a settlement in Oregon multidistrict litigation blaming GE's engines for the accident.

The MDL stems from a August 2008 crash involving a Sikorsky S-61 helicopter that was carrying 11 firefighters and two pilots back to base camp after weather conditions made combating a section of a raging wildfire in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest too dangerous. The helicopter hit trees...
