US Sanctions BP, Contractors Over Deepwater Spill

Law360, New York (October 12, 2011, 9:06 PM EDT) -- Federal offshore drilling regulators on Wednesday sanctioned BP PLC, Transocean Ltd. and Halliburton Co. for their alleged roles in the Deepwater Horizon explosion that killed 11 workers and sent nearly 5 million of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

The U.S. Department of the Interior's newly-formed Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement issued a total of 15 safety and environmental violations to the three companies — seven to BP and four each to Transocean and Halliburton.
