DOL Sued Over Job Corps Contract Conversion

Law360, New York (October 13, 2011, 7:24 PM EDT) -- Education contractor Adams and Associates Inc. on Thursday accused the U.S. Department of Labor of breaking the law when it converted the company's Job Corps center contract to a small business set-aside, excluding it from future competition for the work.

While many contracts can exempt large businesses from competition under the Small Business Act and Competition in Contracting Act, Jobs Corps centers, which train disadvantaged youth for work, are explicitly denied those exemptions by the 1998 Workforce Investment Act, according to the complaint filed in the...
