HHS Won't Pursue Health Care Law's CLASS Program

Law360, New York (October 14, 2011, 7:45 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services revealed Friday that it was ending its efforts to implement a long-term insurance program envisioned by the 2010 federal health care reform law amid concerns about the program's viability.

Despite nearly two years of analysis, the agency could not find a way to make the Community Living Assistance Services and Support program self-sustaining over the long haul as required by the law, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen G. Sebelius said in a letter to congressional leaders....
