Legal Fights Could Hinder New Uses For Yucca Site: GAO

Law360, New York (October 18, 2011, 3:32 PM EDT) -- Potential alternative uses for the Yucca Mountain site in Nevada, which was pulled from consideration as a nuclear waste repository in 2009 after more than 20 years and billions of dollars of study, would face daunting legal hurdles, according to a government report released Monday.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office found that legal challenges stemming from the Obama administration's decision to shelve the project could seriously hinder or delay any of the suggested alternative uses for the site.
