Highland Slams Appraiser's $250M Real Estate Suit

Law360, New York (October 21, 2011, 3:03 PM EDT) -- Highland Capital Management LP on Thursday blasted a real estate appraiser's preemptive suit against it, seeking to keep CB Richard Ellis Inc. on the hook for a failed Las Vegas development into which the private equity firm sunk $250 million.

CBRE violated the terms of a confidentiality agreement established in prior mediation and filed its complaint last month in Nevada federal court to avoid facing a suit in Texas, where Highland is headquartered, the private equity firm said in a scathing dismissal motion.
