Boxing Champ Spinks Fights For Piece Of Promoter's Estate

Law360, Wilmington (October 21, 2011, 3:04 PM EDT) -- A Delaware judge on Friday denied former heavyweight boxing champion Michael Spinks' bid to freeze assets of his ex-promoter's $8.5 million estate, but ordered a prompt trial on whether the estate is bound by decades-old agreements to pay his living expenses.

Spinks filed suit in Delaware Chancery Court on Oct. 14, alleging former promoter Ronald E. “Butch” Lewis, who died in July, had mismanaged the boxer’s $25 million in career earnings, leading the executors of the promoter’s estate to abruptly cut off as much as $50,000...
