Feds Approve 1st New BP Drilling Plan Since Gulf Blowout

Law360, New York (October 21, 2011, 6:17 PM EDT) -- Federal regulators have approved an exploration plan by BP PLC for new oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, the first time such a plan has been approved for the company since the explosion of its Deepwater Horizon rig in April 2010, the government announced Friday.

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said that it had conducted an environmental assessment of the plan and confirmed that BP is complying with the bureau's “rigorous, heightened standards.” The company is also meeting its own voluntary...
