AT&T Smartphones Infringe Wireless IP, Inventor Says

Law360, New York (October 24, 2011, 4:37 PM EDT) -- An inventor launched an infringement suit Friday accusing telecom giant AT&T Inc. of selling smartphones that violate a patent for analog compression technology.

Hark C. Chan alleges in a complaint in Washington state federal court that AT&T sold more than a dozen brands of smartphones that contain technology covered by U.S. Patent Number 7,856,217, titled "Transmission and receiver system operating on multiple audio systems."
