DOT Fines Lan Airlines For Violating Deceptive Ad Rules

Law360, New York (October 26, 2011, 4:45 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation fined Chile's Lan Airlines $50,000 on Wednesday for failing to clearly disclose taxes and fees on its website in violation of DOT rules barring deceptive advertising in air travel.

The penalty comes after the department fined a number of major companies over customer disclosures in recent months, including South African Airways, Orbitz Worldwide LLC, Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd., Air Canada and United Airlines.
