Calif. AG Goes After Bottles Touted As Biodegradable

Law360, New York (October 26, 2011, 4:56 PM EDT) -- California's attorney general on Wednesday sued plastics company ENSO Plastics LLC and two bottled water companies that use ENSO's plastic bottles in state court, claiming they falsely marketed the bottles as being "biodegradable and recyclable."

It's the first suit filed under California's greenwashing law, which makes it illegal to label plastic food or beverage containers as biodegradable, according to Attorney General Kamala D. Harris. California lawmakers passed the legislation in 2008, and Gov. Jerry Brown signed it into law earlier this year. The law will expand...
