Judge Nixes Google Bid To Extend Microsoft Probation

Law360, New York (June 28, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge handed Google Inc. a defeat Tuesday, saying that she would not currently consider the search-engine company's recent request that governmental oversight of Microsoft Corp. be extended through November 2009.

The oversight is currently set to expire in November 2007, which is when the judge said she would revisit Google's request. It is part of a consent decree, stemming from Microsoft's settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice for alleged antitrust violations.
