Senate Committee Backs Healthcare IT Bill

Law360, New York (June 28, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a move that renews last year's debate over the merits of information technology expansion in health care, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed the Wired for Health Care Quality bill on Thursday.

Its sponsors—Ted Kennedy (D.-Mass.), Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)—hailed the bill as a much-needed and long-overdue step toward bringing thousands of healthcare facilities and administrative policies up to date.
