La. Tries To Fend Off Sanctions Threat In Deepwater MDL

Law360, New York (November 1, 2011, 5:41 PM EDT) -- Louisiana fired back Monday at a magistrate judge who threatened to impose hefty fines if the state did not soon produce documents requested by BP PLC in multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, calling the request unreasonable and unduly burdensome.

The state objected to and appealed U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally Shushan's Oct. 27 order demanding Louisiana produce its first batch of documents by Nov. 3, followed by a second batch of documents due Nov. 21.
