Ex-AWA Pilots Win Class Cert. In US Airways Merger Feud

Law360, New York (November 2, 2011, 3:50 PM EDT) -- An Arizona federal judge on Wednesday certified a defendant class of former America West Airlines Inc. pilots in a declaratory judgment action by US Airways Inc. that seeks absolution from liability in a dispute between warring pilot factions stemming from the airlines' merger.

U.S. District Judge Roslyn O. Silver certified the approximately 1,900 America West pilots over the objections of co-defendant U.S. Airline Pilots Association, a pilots' union that contended the proposed class was over-inclusive.
