Cigna Beats RICO Claims In Hospital's $30M Payment Suit

Law360, New York (November 4, 2011, 8:05 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge on Thursday tossed Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act claims from a $30 million suit in which a Houston hospital operator claims Cigna Healthcare significantly underpaid it for treatment provided to Cigna subscribers.

According to the suit, Cigna paid far less to North Cypress Medical Center Operating Co. than the insurer contractually owed under health care plans issued to its subscribers. North Cypress claims that Cigna provided an average of $100 per claim no matter the total amount of the claim, and...
