US Urges Fed. Circ. To Nix $142M Nuclear Waste Award

Law360, Washington (November 7, 2011, 5:59 PM EST) -- The U.S. government tried to convince the Federal Circuit on Monday that three nuclear utilities were wrongly awarded more than $142 million in combined damages for the government's breach of agreements with them governing the disposal of spent nuclear fuel.

In September 2010, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, acting on remand from the Federal Circuit, ruled that the U.S. owed $21.2 million to Yankee Atomic Electric Co., $81.7 million to Maine Yankee Atomic Power Co. and $39.7 million to Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Co. for...
