Phony Chinese Parts Jeopardize Soldiers' Safety: Sens.

Law360, New York (November 7, 2011, 7:32 PM EST) -- Chinese companies are endangering U.S. soldiers by flooding the military supply chain with counterfeit, possibly defective electronic parts, and Chinese government officials have stymied efforts to investigate the issue, U.S. lawmakers said Monday.

According to a memorandum released by Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., staff from the Senate Armed Services Committee have identified about 1,800 cases of suspected counterfeit electronic parts entering the U.S. Department of Defense's supply chain, with more than 1 million parts thought to be fakes.
