Web Advertiser Strikes Deal To End FTC Cookies Fight

Law360, New York (November 8, 2011, 8:54 PM EST) -- Online advertiser ScanScout on Tuesday settled the Federal Trade Commission's claims that it deceived consumers into thinking they could opt out of targeted ads by changing the privacy settings for cookies on their Web browsers.

ScanScout's privacy policy, listed on its website, told users that by changing the settings for cookies on their browsers, they could prevent online advertisers like ScanScout from tracking their Internet use and using it to send targeted advertisements.
