7th Circ. Revives SmithAmundsen Pregnancy Bias Suit

Law360, New York (November 9, 2011, 6:07 PM EST) -- The Seventh Circuit on Wednesday reinstated a pregnancy discrimination suit against Chicago-based law firm SmithAmundsen LLC by its former marketing director, ruling that the lower court had improperly excluded alleged statements by the firm's human resources director.

Plaintiff Lisa Makowski claims that after she was terminated while on maternity leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act, human resources director Molly O’Gara told her that she had been fired for taking leave and that the firm discriminates against pregnant employees.
