N.J. Sues Over 50 Companies Over Gas Additive

Law360, New York (July 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- New Jersey has fired off a lawsuit against more than 50 energy companies, including giants BP America Inc., ChevronTexaco Corp. and ExxonMobile Corp., seeking millions of dollars in remedies after the companies allegedly discharged the dangerous gasoline additive MTBE into the state's waters.

The lawsuit, filed on Friday in state superior court, asserts natural resource damage claims and is asking for compensation that goes beyond the cost of cleaning up the pollution to make up for the damage done to public health, the New Jersey Department...
