Crisis In The Subprime Market: Turmoil Will Continue

Law360 (July 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The recent crisis involving two Bear Stearns hedge funds that invested in subprime mortgages has focused Wall Street’s attention on the problems in the industry and rattled the broader credit markets.

But the problems have been apparent since late 2006, and despite early predictions that the crisis was limited and temporary, it now appears that the conditions will persist through 2008.

As a result, questions have arisen as to whether problems in the subprime market may spill over to the broader economy.
