H&R Block Walks Away From $288M TaxACT Deal

Law360, New York (November 15, 2011, 3:56 PM EST) -- H&R Block Inc. and TaxACT software developer 2SS Holdings Inc. have abandoned their plans to merge in a $287.6 million deal, the companies said Tuesday, two weeks after a Washington federal judge barred the transaction on antitrust grounds.

The companies have mutually terminated the deal, according to 2SS spokeswoman Jessi Dolmage.

The move comes on the the heels of the permanent injunction that U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell issued against the deal Oct. 31 at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice, which maintained...
