Ranch Cos. Fork Over $17M To End Calif. Wildfire Dispute

Law360, New York (November 15, 2011, 9:41 PM EST) -- Four corporate entities that made up La Laguna Ranch, the flash point of the second-largest recorded wildfire in California history, have paid $17 million to settle an investigation into the 2007 blaze, the U.S. attorney's office announced Tuesday.

The companies — La Laguna Ranch LLC, Rancho La Laguna LLC, La Laguna Cattle Co. LLC and Rancho Reata LLC — paid the federal government $14 million, which will reimburse the U.S. Forest Service for its costs associated with fighting the fire, prosecutors said.
