Ex-Employees Win Severance From ConocoPhillips

Law360 (July 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court turned ConocoPhillips's previous victory in a class action brought by laid-off employees into a defeat Tuesday, reversing a district court ruling that the company was not compelled to extend severance to the plaintiffs.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit found that the plaintiffs, a class of former employees at Phillips Petroleum Co. who said they were fired as a result of Phillips's merger with the former Conoco Inc., were “participants” in Phillips's Workforce Stabilization Plan and thus deserve benefits....
