BP Broke Probation With 2009 Alaska Oil Spill: US

Law360, New York (November 16, 2011, 5:11 PM EST) -- The U.S. government told an Alaska federal judge on Monday that a BP PLC subsidiary had violated its probation agreement in connection with a previous Clean Water Act conviction by negligently ignoring signs that led to a 2009 pipeline rupture.

“BP has now proven itself to be a recidivist offender and repeated violator of environmental laws and regulations,” the government said in a brief filed with the court in preparation for an evidentiary hearing scheduled for Nov. 29.
