Opponents Dominate Final NY Fracking Rules Hearing

Law360, New York (November 30, 2011, 7:49 PM EST) -- Environmental advocates, public officials, experts and concerned citizens packed an auditorium in downtown Manhattan on Wednesday to express overwhelming opposition to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation's proposed regulations on hydraulic fracturing for natural gas.

The DEC was holding its final of three public hearings on the proposed regulations, which, if finalized, would effectively end a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in New York and allow gas drillers to use the process in large portions of the state.
