EU Takes Spain To Court Over Lottery Tax

Law360 (July 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has once again challenged a Spanish law that permits the country to tax winnings from lotteries organized abroad while exempting income from Spanish lotteries, this time referring Spain to the European Court of Justice.

The Commission said on Friday that it had referred Spain to Europe's highest court after the member state failed to respond to an earlier opinion that asked the government to change the legislation in question.
