Enviros Urge 5th Circ. To Toss Drilling Permit Deadline

Law360, New York (November 22, 2011, 7:03 PM EST) -- Three environmental groups on Monday urged the Fifth Circuit to vacate a lower court's decision ordering the U.S. to act on deepwater drilling permit applications from Ensco Offshore Co. contractors within 30 days, even though the parties settled their dispute post-judgment.

In a May 10 ruling, U.S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman said that six permit applications to drill in the Gulf of Mexico — filed since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill — using Ensco's rigs were unlawfully and improperly delayed.
