U.K. Competition Commission Details BSkyB Probe

Law360 (July 9, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.K.'s Competition Commission detailed the focus of its investigation Monday into British Sky Broadcasting's controversial purchase of a 17.9% share of independent television broadcaster ITV.

In a statement, the U.K.'s antitrust regulator said it intends to determine whether the merger “may be expected to operate against the public interest,” and result in in a “substantial” reduction in competition in any U.K. market.

Specifically, the Commission is investigating whether the purchase could hurt competition in the areas of content production, the pay-TV market, bidding for sports...
