Orthodox Union Fights Valdoliva's Defamation Claim

Law360, New York (July 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A simmering battle over an olive oil manufacturing company's use of a kosher certification trademark heated up on Monday, with a Jewish nonprofit organization defending its efforts to notify customers of the allegedly infringing products.

The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America said court documents filed Monday that it had “every right to initiate corrective action” against the Cincinnati, Ohio-based Valdoliva International Inc., which produces olive and seed oil products in the United States, Europe, Africa, Australia and South Asia.
