South Africa Blocks Merger Of Leaflet Advertisers

Law360, New York (December 7, 2011, 6:36 PM EST) -- South Africa's Competition Commission has decided to block the merger of two major printed advertisement distributors, saying Wednesday the transaction would substantially lessen competition in the leaflet market and reversing an earlier approval of the deal.

The commission said it had uncovered previously unseen strategy documents in its second investigation of the merger that indicated substantial competition between the companies, printing business Paarl Media Ltd. and Primedia@Home, a unit of media group Primedia Ltd.
