DOE Strikes Deal With 383 Manhattan Project Plaintiffs

Law360, New York (December 8, 2011, 4:56 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Energy has settled with 383 plaintiffs in multidistrict litigation claiming radiation from the Washington state outpost of the Manhattan Project caused their thyroid disease, according to minutes from a Tuesday pretrial conference.

Terms of the recent settlement were not made public, according to the defendants' attorney Kevin Van Wart of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Attorneys at the pretrial conference also discussed pretrial discovery and preparation of some cases for trial, records show.
