Music Industry to Pen Online Distribution Deal

Law360, New York (November 10, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- The global music industry will announce a new licensing system for online music distribution on Tuesday, the Financial Times reported.

Under the new system, internet service providers will be able to negotiate multi-territory licensing agreements with the music industry rather than national agreements, according to the newspaper.

Negotiated by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents more than 1,500 music companies in 76 countries, the webcasting agreement is expected to be signed by collecting societies in more than 30 countries.
