The CFPB Standstill: Consumers Vs. Taxpayers

Law360, New York (December 21, 2011, 9:16 PM EST) -- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau remains without a director in a steadfast and increasingly entrenched battle between the interests of consumers and those of taxpayers. That, at least, is how the Obama administration and Senate Republicans have couched the debate that has stalled the Senate confirmation of the president’s nominee to become the first director of the new federal consumer financial watchdog, which was created in the wake of the 2008 global crisis.
