FCC Rolls Out Rules Banishing Loud TV Commercials

Law360, New York (December 14, 2011, 6:01 PM EST) -- Overloud television commercials will become a thing of the past after the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday implemented long-awaited legislation that will prevent advertisers from setting the volume of their commercials louder than that of the shows they accompany.

The FCC's adoption of the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act will make mandatory a technical standard preventing TV advertisements from being transmitted at louder volumes than their adjacent television show broadcasts.
