Commerce Bans UAE Co. For Selling Web Filters To Syria

Law360, New York (December 16, 2011, 6:48 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce on Thursday banned a United Arab Emirates company from receiving items under the jurisdiction of U.S. export controls for shipping Internet filtering devices made by California-based Blue Coat Systems Inc. to Syria.

Commerce added Info Tech and Waseem Jawad to its list of foreign persons found to have engaged in activities contrary to U.S. national security or foreign policy interests, after it was found to have shipped the Internet filtering devices — which could potentially be used by the Syrian government...
