Electrolux Dryers Led To $12M In Fire Damage: State Farm

Law360, New York (December 19, 2011, 3:43 PM EST) -- State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. sued Electrolux Home Products Inc. in Illinois federal court on Friday, accusing the appliance manufacturer of selling faulty clothes dryers that caught fire and caused more than $12 million in damage to policyholders' homes.

State Farm says it has paid out more than $12 million in claims to about 200 policyholders since 2008. It accused Electrolux of strict product liability and negligence, claiming that the company had poorly designed the dryers.

A representative for Electrolux declined to comment.
