Perry Not Liable for Texas Day Laborer Law: Judge

Law360, New York (December 19, 2011, 1:54 PM EST) -- A federal magistrate judge on Wednesday ruled that sovereign immunity shields Texas Gov. Rick Perry from liability in a lawsuit challenging a state law that prohibits day laborers from standing in roadways to solicit jobs.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen Smith dismissed claims against Perry in both his official capacity and individual capacity in a lawsuit brought by Jornaleros de Las Palmas, an unincorporated association of Latino day laborers.
