House Rejects Payroll Tax Cut Extension

Law360, New York (December 20, 2011, 3:16 PM EST) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday rejected a bipartisan U.S. Senate compromise that would have extended a payroll tax cut for two months and would have directed President Barack Obama to decide on the Keystone pipeline.

The Republican-led House did not bring the Senate deal to a direct vote, but instead used a procedural maneuver in which members could vote to reject the Senate bill and request a conference with senators over the disagreement.
