SoCal Gas Workers Denied Class Status In OT Case

Law360, San Diego (December 20, 2011, 7:21 PM EST) -- A California state court on Monday refused to certify a class of Southern California Gas Co. field operations workers who say the energy company made them work during their breaks and failed to compensate them for off-the-clock work.

Judge Zaven Sinanian adopted a tentative ruling against class certification, concluding that although there were about 3,000 proposed class members, the plaintiffs had failed to show a predominance of common questions or that consolidation into a single action would be superior to hearing the claims individually.
