Solutia May Face More Damages Over Nitro Plant

Law360 (July 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Bankrupt Solutia Inc. may be set for fresh troubles, with a plaintiffs' attorney reportedly claiming the embattled chemical maker could be liable for additional millions for mishandling toxic waste at its now-defunct Nitro, West Virginia plant.

Stuart Calwell, an attorney who represents about 2,300 residents in and around the town of Nitro, told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Prudence Carter Beatty at a hearing that Solutia “allowed dioxin-contaminated materials to be removed from the site and burned in a boiler with a 100-foot stack," Dow Jones reported Friday....
