Public Defender Accuses NJ Office Of Race Bias

Law360, New York (December 22, 2011, 6:00 PM EST) -- A black public defender on Monday sued her employer, claiming that her supervisor at the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender imposed harsh penalties on her for alleged shortcomings that were routinely tolerated from white employees.

Gillian Swanson said she was placed on a Performance Improvement Plan for a number of supposed policy violations, while her white co-workers’ actual violations went unpunished.
