Angiotech, Boston Scientific Sue Conor Medsystems Over Drug-Coated Stents

Law360, New York (February 2, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Canada’s Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. and its corporate partner, Boston Scientific Corp., have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Conor Medsystems Inc. in Dutch courts in an effort to stop the rival from commercializing its paclitaxel-coated stent.

The lawsuit comes a week after the European Patent Office maintained the validity of Angiotech's patent with various claims, including claims to stents coated with paclitaxel and a polymeric carrier.

In November, Boston Scientific, which distributes Angiotech's paclitaxel drug worldwide, agreed to increase its royalty payments to the company....
