Judge Tosses NYU's Claims Against Autodesk

Law360, New York (July 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that two animation patents held by New York University are invalid, dismissing the university’s claims that the patents were infringed by software maker Autodesk Inc.

Judge Jed S. Rakoff of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted Autodesk’s motion for summary judgment on Friday, finding that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office acted unlawfully when it allowed NYU to revive an abandoned patent application for the patents-in-suit.
