Permits For Mining On Tribal Land Spark Suit

Law360 (July 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two environmental groups have launched a lawsuit against a federal agency that sets coal mining standards for signing off on two permits for a mine in northwestern New Mexico.

The San Juan Citizens Alliance and Diné Citizens Against Ruining our Environment accused the federal agency and its western regional director, Al Klein, of breaking federal laws by issuing the mine’s permit renewal in September 2004 and giving the green light to a revised permit in October 2005.
