Miss. Court Strikes Down Record $322M Asbestos Verdict

Law360, New York (January 3, 2012, 6:59 PM EST) -- A Mississippi state court vacated a $322 million jury verdict against Union Carbide Corp. in an order released to the public Tuesday, after the judge who oversaw the case was removed because his parents had filed asbestos litigation.

In an order filed Dec. 27, Special Judge William F. Coleman, who replaced Judge Eddie H. Bowen, quashed prior rulings as well as the verdict, which one of the plaintiff's attorneys had hailed as the largest single-plaintiff asbestos verdict in history.
