BP Spill Fund Freezes Payments After Atty Fees Order

Law360, New York (January 4, 2012, 1:47 PM EST) -- BP PLC’s $20 billion oil spill fund announced Tuesday that it would freeze all claims payments until the judge handling the multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon disaster clarified an order regarding attorney pay in the case.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier instructed the Gulf Coast Claims Facility in a Dec. 28 ruling to deposit 6 percent of all payments to oil spill claimants into a court-supervised escrow account to cover potential litigation fees for the plaintiffs’ lawyers.
