Ill. Gets $186M For High-Speed Rail Segment

Law360, New York (January 5, 2012, 4:45 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $186 million to the Illinois Department of Transportation for a portion of its Chicago-to-St. Louis high-speed rail project, allowing the state to extend construction of the project into central Illinois, the DOT announced Wednesday.

The DOT said Wednesday that Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood had officially assigned the funds to the project, which is expected to create a high-speed rail corridor between Chicago and St. Louis. The grant was first announced in May.
