Arbitrator Rules Metrologic Products Covered By Symbol License; Symbol Mulls Lawsuit

Law360, New York (February 7, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- An arbitrator in New York City has ruled that Metrologic handheld bar code scanning products are covered by a Symbol Technologies license and that Metrologic must pay Symbol royalties and interests, Symbol said.

The ruling also determined that certain Metrologic products are unlicensed with regards to Symbol's bar code scanning intellectual property, the company said.

In January 1996, the companies entered into an agreement under which Metrologic licensed Symbol's laser bar code scanning technology for use in certain Metrologic product families. Under that agreement, Metrologic pays...
